Our 26 Example Checkpoints

We can discuss how our 26 checkpoints can help you get a firm grip on the college application process.

  1. Provide a preliminary list of colleges/options
  2. Suggest, and provide for loan, books that inform about the admissions process
  3. Upon request supply organizational binder or folders for all incoming college information and activity
  4. Recommend secondary school courses and school programs
  5. Advise regarding admissions testing (PSAT, SAT, ACT, SAT II, AP)**
  6. Consult with student and parents to establish a starting point for college investigations based on student’s current goals
  7. Determined by a student’s records, needs and wants as well as the parents’ input, create a list of 30 possible colleges:  10 REACH, 10 FIT, & 10 SAFETY
  8. Assist student and parents in narrowing the list to 5 colleges in each category (15 is only a suggestion)
  9. Discuss the options of Early Decision or Early Action and the ramifications each involves
  10. Discuss and advise regarding Financial aid and/or Merit Scholarships when appropriate for the situation
  11. Discuss and oversee completion of the Common App and how best to utilize this format
  12. Print out the Common application and all supplements for use as rough drafts
  13. Consult with student regarding choice of essay topics (Student should complete rough draft of each topic before selecting final choice for topics)
  14. Review drafts of completed essays (make suggestions for revisions)***
  15. Request list and short description of  each of student’s extracurricular activities from grades nine through twelve
  16. Review student’s extracurricular activity list and transform list into resume to be downloaded as an attachment to the application
  17. Assist student with selection of appropriate teachers/references to ask for letters of recommendation
  18. Instruct student in time-management development (be aware of all deadlines)
  19. Prepare both student and parents for school visits and give advice regarding admissions protocol
  20. Work with student to practice interview and presentation skills (mock interview, what to wear, how to deal with difficult topics)
  21. Help student and parents prepare a list of “need to know” questions to ask at an information session or on a tour
  22. Review all completed applications prior to submission
  23. Remind student to have high school forward Transcript, School report, Counselor’s report and Mid-Year report to all selected colleges
  24. After acceptances are received, assist student and parents in the decision-making process (Due by May 1)
  25. Remind student that although Senioritis is rampant and highly contagious, final grades will be reported to the college of your choice and colleges are allowed to rescind acceptances of students whose grades take a nosedive
  26. Direct student and parents to celebrate

* Unlimited up to 35 hours.

**All private tutoring is extra and therefore billed separately.
